1. High quality of teaching

It’s advisable to research and apply to a university that has good quality teaching as you will be required to invest a lot of money and time. The last thing you want is to regret your university choice, especially if you’re an international student.

One of the reasons to choose to study at the University of Huddersfield is because it has a gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). TEF is a system introduced by the government in 2017 as a source for prospective students to judge the teaching quality in undergraduate courses.

2. Low cost of living

It’s essential to consider the overall cost involved with studying abroad. You will need to factor in tuition fees, accommodation costs, transport, and food, as well as spending money.

The University of Huddersfield is located in Huddersfield, a lovely historic town in West Yorkshire, UK. The cost of living is relatively low compared to other major cities in the UK. For international students, this makes it an ideal place to live and study. It would approximately cost you between £350-400 for your monthly rent in student accommodations.

3. Good local transport

The train station and the bus station are only a 10-15 minute walk from the University. These have good transport links to some of the big cities in the UK, such as Leeds, Manchester, and Liverpool. All are under an hour away by train.

You can register for your student railcard as it makes traveling a lot cheaper. I have a 16-25 Railcard, which costs only £30 a year and it saves 1/3 on rail fares throughout Great Britain. The University also organizes a lot of budget-friendly trips for students. It includes trips to theme parks, shopping centers, food festivals, national parks, and tourist destinations.

4. Walkable city

Everything you need is within walking distance and personally, this is one of the best aspects of living in Huddersfield.

For instance, the GP is located within the University’s premises and all the supermarkets, retail outlets, and restaurants are within walking distance. This is great for saving time and money.

5. A strong international community

The University of Huddersfield has a diverse community with over 120 nationalities and around 140 student-led societies and sports clubs. The university also has 60 global societies, representing students from all over the world.

This not only gives you a chance to meet students from your country but it allows you to make friends from all over the world. This can help you build a global network once you complete your studies. These societies are particularly aimed at representing different cultures, languages, and countries.

These societies organize a wide range of cultural events, including food festivals, fashion shows, conversation clubs, sporting events, and national & independence days. This is a good opportunity to get involved, learn from others and have some fun along the way.

6. Good job prospects and opportunities

International students have the opportunity of working alongside their studies in the UK. You can do this in many ways, but it depends on the type of visa you have. you have a tier 4 visa for a full-time undergraduate course. This means you can work 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during university vacations.

Part-time jobs are a good way to earn some pocket money. They are also useful to gain valuable skills to include on your CV when applying for graduate jobs.

The University has a facility called the Job shop, where you will find a range of job opportunities. There are advertised online and exclusive to Huddersfield Students. They include part-time jobs in the town, the local area, and at the University. The jobs at the university tend to pay above the national minimum wage and the working hours are flexible around your lectures and seminars.

The University also organizes many career fairs, including employer fairs, placement fairs, and graduate job fairs. This gives you a chance to network with national and international employers.
